The Peak is the Number 1 place to visit in Hong Kong

My Guests at Victoria Peak in Hong Kong - Volume 11

The greatest of all city views, Victoria Peak Hong Kong

Thank you to all the wonderful guests I had over the years and the joy it gave me to introduce Hong Kong to you from Victoria Peak.

Sometimes I think I have run out of things to say about Victoria Peak in Hong Kong - I mean what can I say about Victoria Peak, it is my second home…. I have lived in Hong Kong for 52 years and have been to the Peak (as Hong Kong residents call it) over 6,000 times since 1972.

Sometimes when I write these posts I actually get really angry with a lot of Travel Agencies and their approximately 5,500 so called licenced tour guides who simply have no love for the Peak, to them it is just another stop on a tour and they absolutely could not care less about giving you a wonderful experience.

There are exceptions of course and I pretty much know them all and I have also heard that a lot of tour guides simply do not like to schedule a tour to the Peak as it takes too long and it is so expensive to see the view (it is if you pay to access the Peak Tower), nonsense excuses from poor tour guides who simply see guiding a job and they have no passion.

You can read all my comments about this in my detailed blog posts.

….. and yes in Hong Kong we refer to Victoria Peak as the Peak but it can get confusing as we have apparently 579 hills and peaks with names! and Victoria Peak is just 552m in height but even so, the city view you get at just 425m approximately is stunning.

This means that I took many of my guests to Victoria Peak, primarily to Jamie’s spot at the Peak also known as the Lugard Road Look Out on the Peak Circle Walk (or Peak Circular Walk as some people like to call it) where you will get one of the most amazing panoramic city views in the world, in my mind it is unbeatable.

I am always incredulous at how many lifestyle websites and travel blogs these days seem to mention Victoria Peak as an afterthought, in today’s social media climate it seems to be all about those terrible travel and tourism cliches I hate with a passion ie. Hidden Gems and Secret Spots and I have written a couple of blog posts about those terms! none of them and I do mean none come even close to matching the breathtaking views to be had at the Peak.

… and to emphasise a point I made earlier another issue is simply that the vast majority of Tour Companies in Hong Kong and particularly those on VIATOR and other OTA’s do NOT take you to the spot for the greatest panoramic city view in the world and sadly I have learnt over the years that the primary reason is timing, in other words, the guide is simply too lazy to take their guests to the spot.

Take it from me, your number one priority when you come to Hong Kong should be to see the awesome panoramic view of Hong Kong from the Lugard Road Lookout. period.

As usual I have chosen not to add any comments to the images and the images are in no particular order

….. oh and one final point, looking at images is one thing, actually seeing it with your own eyes and listening to the explanation of what you are seeing cannot be beat! please visit Hong Kong, hire a top quality private guide and please visit Victoria Peak and go to the Lugard Road Lookout.

That, Ladies and Gentleman is that, I hope you have a good read of this and my other articles and if you are coming to Hong Kong remember it is the guide that makes the difference between a poor tour, a good tour, a great tour and an outstanding tour.

Choose wisely.

If I had any followers on Instagram who liked views rather than my car images then this would be a classic, Mum, Dad and 4 kids aged from 12 - 22 from England, perfect weather, the planets aligned as they do on most days at the Peak.

This rather sums up Jamie’s spot at the Peak.
