It is always about the people you meet in life

People I have met in Amazing Hong Kong

I have always been a people person and I put my charm to the test (!) by completing 2,324 private tours in Hong Kong between April 2011 to January 2020.

During this time I was fortunate to meet some very lovely people as guests but not just that, every day I meet all sorts of wonderful people in Hong Kong and I have a large collection of images that I will share over the coming years.

The images are in no particular order and sometimes I have things to say and sometimes I let the picture do the talking.

The Chinese Model | …..who caused a stir on the Promenade, TST, Kowloon

This is the promenade at TST in Kowloon where you get to see the amazing views of Hong Kong Island across Victoria Harbour and this young lady is apparently an up and coming model in the USA, she actually had her manager and crew with her (I managed to keep them out of the photograph).

She was lovely and very graciously agreed to pose for me.

The Finance Guy and his Son | The Tai O Fishing Village on Lantau Island

I love unpretentious folk, this chap is a major league European finance guy in charge of a Sovereign Fund (although I did not know this until after our private tour) and along with his son, we visited the remote Tai O Fishing Village in Hong Kong using public transport! we had a great day out and they were just so humble and nice.

The Anti Terrorism Police | Patrolling in the Hong Kong MTR (Subway)

I actually laughed when I saw these two young policeman (although you would under no circumstances ever mess with them) they are with the Elite Squad that you normally see at Hong Kong International Airport.

So what made me laugh? the backpacks - or more to the point I knew what was in the backpack and it wasn’t wet weather gear or lunch, nope it was a high powered European made fully automatic machine gun! it had been decided that it was too provocative for the normal subway system (I have a very reliable source in the Police Force)

So now you know

The Lugard Road Lookout | Victoria Peak Hong Kong

Also known as Jamie’s spot at the Peak.

I would suggest that this is the greatest Instagram spot in Hong Kong.

I will keep this short and sweet, it is the greatest city view in the world and please do click on the link below, it is very comprehensive and it is for those visitors that do not want to do a Private Tour or Private Experience.

The Guy with the Phoenix Tattoo | Cheung Chau Island, Hong Kong

Magnificent isn’t it.

This was taken on Cheung Chau Island, one of the 263 Islands that we have in Hong Kong.

This chap is a triad (gangster) member who are prone to showing off large tattoo’s and battle scars, you can see the chopper (meat cleaver) scars on his left arm, a rite of passage for these gentleman.

What struck me, was that he was doing one of the mundane things in life, getting money from the cash machine!

PLA (Chinese Army) Troops | Returning to Barracks in Hong Kong.

Not exactly a common sight and somehow their battle hardness is diminished by them all wearing masks (Covid times)

I was doing car and truck photography at one of my key spots, the middle of the road at the junction of Jordan Road and Nathan Road in Kowloon and in one fluid motion I took the shot, I was given the beady eye by one of the soldiers and yes, they all had rifles!

Mandy | At the Rosewood Hotel in Hong Kong

This is Mandy, Mandy is a great friend of mine and a totally awesome Private Tour Guide in Hong Kong, a group of Hong Kong's best Private Tour Guides were given a tour of the Rosewood Hotel and rooms by Hotel Management... wow!

Hong Kong Street Market | I would look like that after gutting fish for 40 years

I felt really sorry for the fishmonger, he just looked so weary and you have to admire someone who has the fortitude to kill and gut large fish 12 hours a day, every day.

A helluva job - think Dirty Jobs on steroids.

Lunch | Statue Square in Central, Hong Kong

Sometimes people watching can be interesting - this young couple were all loved up and for 15 minutes I watched them negotiate the rather mundane act of eating food in public.

Quite fascinating it was.

The Shanghai Boy | The Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin Temple in Hong Kong

The day I met a reputed Triad Boss

I should point out that the chap in the white suit with the 3 heavies in black is | was a famous “reputed gangster” in Hong Kong and is known as the Shanghai Boy and is always in need of the deities wisdom to help with his ongoing legal troubles, nice chap, came over and we shook hands

My guest was dumbfounded at shaking hands with the Shanghai Boy

Just one of those moments in time when the planets align.

Last I heard was he was arrested on returning to Hong Kong in 2020 after catching Covid, he has been on the run overseas, presumably he is in Jail but you never know…………………

Think Crazy Rich Asians | The Hong Kong Tai Tai

Tai Tai is a term given to a wife who clearly comes from a very wealthy family and this lady is no doubt the matriarch of such a family. This was taken in the JW Marriott Hotel on Hong Kong Island, they have some lovely restaurants.

Very elegant, very classy and she even said hello to me!

The Hong Kong Police Force | PTU Patrol

This is a random PTU unit (Police Tactical Unit) highly trained and very professional and very aware of their surroundings. This was taken in Tsuen Wan in Hong Kong and a photo op presented itself and I had no idea that the young female officer had clocked me even though her back was turned.!

The Damned | 2017 Hong Kong Tour

The Damned in Hong Kong, Hotel Icon, 3 of the group

I just happened to be in the Hotel Icon at the exact time they were leaving, I recognised them from some images in the press and being me I started chatting to them… as you all know they are an iconic 1970’s punk rock band from the UK.

… and again me being me asked them to pose for a photograph and they obliged, super nice chaps I have to say and gosh, the guy in the bluish jacket has the stage name of Monty Oxymoron!!

Way to go guys!

SEX Sells | Prostitution and Related Services, All Districts, Hong Kong

Temple Street in Kowloon, Hong Kong - prostitution is legal but soliciting in a public place is illegal and this is on display day and night but it seems to be tolerated unlike vice establishments which are not. It is a very complex issue with a lot of grey areas.

I just felt so sorry for this young lady, she just looked so sad and no she did not proposition me!

Pink Rolls Royce Phantom | Probably the most visible and famous car in Hong Kong

HKG Car Licence Plate - DEBORAH | Yes, this is the elusive Deborah, she used to have a pink Ferrari and now glides around in this pink Rolls Royce Phantom

The Sad Lady | Random passenger on the MTR (Subway) in Hong Kong

I have never quite understood why this is one of my most “liked” images, at a guess is because the young lady just looks so sad.

It was one of those moments when a subject who was looking away from me turned their head at the exact moment I clicked and I am always asked if I know her, NO I do not, just a random encounter on the subway.

The Wu - Tang Clan | Hip Hop Legends at the Four Seasons Hotel

The Band I did not take out on a private tour of Hong Kong … and yes I chatted with them for a few minutes, I am not shy!

Glamorous, gorgeous models | Lobby at the Peninsula Hotel Hong Kong

Oh golly

I quite often sit in the lobby of the Peninsula Hotel doing a spot of people watching and on this day, the planets aligned in 280,000 alternate Universes.

These young ladies were models, dressed up to the nines heading out for a photo shoot, I had already asked the chap in the suit outside who was their manager.

For me it was like time stood still as I gawked.

The truly stunning and amazing panoramic day view from the Lugard Road Lookout at Victoria Peak

The truly stunning and amazing panoramic night view from the Lugard Road Lookout at Victoria Peak

Lugard Road Lookout at Victoria Peak

If I had any followers on Instagram who liked views rather than my car images then this would be a classic, Mum, Dad and 4 kids aged from 12 - 22 from England, perfect weather, the planets aligned as they do on most days at the Peak.

This rather sums up Jamie’s spot at the Peak.
