Although I am from Yorkshire I have quite a neutral accent and because I have lived in Hong Kong for 52 years I speak slowly and clearly.

What I offer
Jamie’s Private Tutor Lessons will be conducted in your home or a mutually agreed location, I am particularly good at talking to people in the lobbies of our 5 Star Hotels!, I often joke with my Tour Guests that I could do an 8 hour tour of Hong Kong sat in the lobby of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Central…..
As I have been in business for well over 40 years, I am very familiar with Business English and in my consultancy capacity I have helped clients with their websites, internal reports, sales presentations, corporate language training emails and such. I am a self taught whiz at Sales and Marketing - I create, operate and edit all of my own websites using Squarespace (which costs around US$230 per year)
I am totally used to working long hours (and odd hours) 7 days a week so doing lessons in the late afternoon or evening are not a problem, as a Private Tour Guide I know my way around all corners of Hong Kong.
I have no issues working Evenings, Sundays or Public Holiday's ( and that includes Christmas Day and New Years Day )
Each lesson will be 1 hour | 1.5 hours | 2 hours | 2.5 hours in duration - whatever you feel is right for you. Conversational English is what I do and you can leave it to me to generate interesting topics to explore
There are no fixed contracts to sign nor a set number of lessons, my aim is simply to give you the confidence to talk in English and I mean real English (which incorporates slang) some people maybe happy to do 1, 2 or 3 one hour lessons, some people may choose to do 50 lessons! Whatever you feel works for you.
Age groups.. 18+ with no upper limit, I am used to dealing with kids by the way, we have raised 3 in Hong Kong, I get on famously with kids so if you think a student aged 5 - 17 would benefit from English Conversation lessons then I am more than happy to schedule a lesson.
All my lessons are face to face, I do not do Zoom, Skype or anything like that, I am simply a firm believer in face to face communication...
24 hours notice must be given for cancellation of a lesson. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the agreed lesson fee.

and I make no wild and impossible promises of making you completely and totally fluent in English in 24 x 1 hour lessons ! learning English is a lifelong experience, even for a native English speaker like me, for me it is very simple, the more you converse in English the more fluent you will become.

My background information
…. Hi, I am Jamie and that image of me is pretty accurate, no filters and no airbrushing I make a living by talking to international visitors about Hong Kong, this wonderful city which has been my home for 52 years. As I get older I want to slow down a little and mix it up doing Private Experiences, Consulting and Private English Tutoring and this is something my family have been encouraging me to do for a few years now.
My wife of 35+ years is Hong Kong born and Cantonese is her first language and English a second language and she works in an International School in Discovery Bay, two of our three son‛s live in Hong Kong (the other lives in London, England) and in fact our youngest Jack is an English Tutor and specialises in tutoring 5 year olds!
It is important that you know that I never went to University, I have pretty much worked for myself since my late teens, hence I am self taught in business and I have learnt so much in 40+ years of doing business in Hong Kong and you should also know that I am not a Certified English Teacher, However, I am an adept conversationalist. In the past 14 years I have made a very good living talking about Hong Kong, this city that I love so much, to 6,000 private tour guests from all over the globe. I have no problem at all conversing with anyone no matter who they are or what they do for a living. Having the confidence to do this has made my life so much more interesting. Prior to these later endeavours in the tourism sector, I spent 30 years doing consultancy work and such.
My gift is that I can and will talk to anyone no matter what level of English they speak. I have a lot of patience and firmly believe that the best way to learn English is having the confidence to engage in casual conversation. I have no intention of talking to you about the science involved in language and tutoring instruction, being a Native English speaker I tend to talk in plain English. Language is all about having the confidence to speak it comfortably even if you fear making mistakes.
Even though I am from Yorkshire in England, I do not have a strong accent courtesy, no doubt, of living in Hong Kong for 52 years. And neither am I an old fuddy duddy, I am pretty laid back - I try and make it as easy as possible for you to learn English.
I should also point out that I do not speak Cantonese. We will only speak English. I simply do not have the gift to speak Cantonese and it is not for want of trying. I have spent decades trying to no avail! I am so lucky to Iive in a City where English is an official language, I always marvel at how my wife is totally fluent in 3 languages and our no. 2 son Jacob is now just about fluent in Cantonese!
The progress that a student can make as a result of one-on-one tuition is amazing, I have seen this with my own kids (who are now adults) and my wife, over the years I have strived to ensure that they spoke proper English as I call it!!
