28 awesome Scooter images taken in Hong Kong

Hong Kong Culture 101

… and yes, Scooters have vanity plates as well and so far I have not seen any interesting ones and they only appear on the back of the scooter making them hard to photograph.

Hong Kong Transport - Scooters, All Brands

I have added in this image as a bonus, one of the downsides of riding a scooter is you just look so inadequate next to a rich guy in Maybach car, the licence plate 50 cost US$256,000 or HK$2,000,000! - I love the expression on the Scooter guy’s face!

Hong Kong Transport - Scooters

I have never been a fan of scooters, I appreciate certain brands such as Vespa have cult status going back to the 1960's and my parents used to ride them when they were in their 20's but for me, they seem pretty bland, I much prefer my big superbikes, but if I had to choose a scooter I would get a Vespa!

I guess people like them because they are cheap, easy to drive and can nip in an out of traffic easily and they certainly are popular with young ladies here who use them to commute to the office (and for food deliveries!) - like a lot of Asian countries scooters here are also used for deliveries and with the massive growth of food delivery companies, scooters are flooding the streets of Hong Kong.

Unlike a lot of other Asian cities whose roads are dominated by scooters and motorcycles it is the opposite in Hong Kong, here it is all about cars and trucks, thankfully I might add, I am sick and tired of seeing Food Panda and Pizza Hut delivery scooters flouting traffic regulations, many of the drivers weave in and out of the traffic at high speed with little regard for safety, they are a menace.

Currently there are approximately 75,000 - 80,000+ Licenced | Registered motorcycles, scooters and tricycles in Hong Kong and dealers keep large stocks of popular scooter models for immediate delivery due to heavy demand.

The Transport Department of the Hong Kong Government classifies motorcycles and scooters as the same type of vehicle so naturally we have food delivery motorcycles as well.

There are over 125 brands of motorcycles and scooters for sale here and after due research the top 5 selling brands of scooters as far as I can determine in Hong Kong are as follows :

•Kymco

•Sym

•Piaggio

•San Yang

•Vespa

As the licence plates are on the back of the scooter and brands are so hard to define I will not post any text or comments to go with the image - oh and the scooter lady on the red Vespa appears a number of times, she is so friendly!

It is also fascinating to see the riders expressions as well, most of them are probably wondering what I find so interesting about scooters!
