Hello Wonderful Events of Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) is a Government-subvented body tasked to market and promote Hong Kong as a travel destination worldwide and to enhance visitors' experience once they arrive.

Discover the diverse blend of nature, culture and flavours that makes Hong Kong a captivating destination for everyone!

From world-class events to seasonal celebrations, there is always something happening in Hong Kong.”

To be perfectly honest I am not a huge fan of the Hong Kong Tourism Board but that is simply a personal opinion, they have an annual budget of anywhere between US$100 - US$200 Million which is a pretty large number, with the budget they have we should be overrun with foreign tourists but we are not, 80% of our tourists come from Mainland China on our doorstep and I am sure they do not bother to go the HKTB website.

The good news is that with the budget they have they can afford to throw money at things to see what sticks, the bad news is that it is a Government Organisation and on the Board of Directors are owners of Tour Companies, talk about a conflict of interest and I always get the impression that the people that compile information and promote attractions and such do not know much about what makes Tourism tick.

Nobody has a clue as to whether the “Hello Hong Kong” campaign of 2023 to lure tourists to visit Hong Kong after Covid was a success or failure, they offered 500,000 free air tickets and it was a global campaign, personally I think it was not as successful as they have hinted at, our tourism numbers are still way down from 2018 and 2019.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board website is perfectly fine and the HKTB is perfectly competent but they are not anywhere near as good at the Singapore Tourism Organisation and Website, they do the job professionally and I guess that is what matters and the one great thing that they got right was the Visitor Centres.

My favourite Visitor Centre is the one at the Star Ferry Terminal in Kowloon, see image above, I find that the staff are very, very helpful at answering any question you may have and they have lots of maps and leaflets to help you out, they are great at giving you advice on how to get to places and nothing is too much trouble for them and that is how it should be.

As you see from the photograph, the Hong Kong Tourism Board is promoting what they call the Panda Economy, we have 6 Pandas at Ocean Park (one of our theme parks) including 2 adorable panda cubs, they sure are cute but I doubt very much it will see a huge increase in tourists coming here to see them.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board has a great map (made for tourists and very detailed) in English which you can download by clicking the link below.

So if you find yourself on the Star Ferry do pop into the Kowloon side Hong Kong Tourism Board Visitor Centre.

Naturally I am also going to plug my own business, myself and my friends all know a lot more about Hong Kong than the Hong Kong Tourism Board, so book a Private Tour of Hong Kong with one of us!
