i know the Tour Industry in Hong Kong, I was a pioneer of Private Tours in Hong Kong, launching my business in 2010 and doing my first tour on April 4th 2011.
I completed 2,324 private tours in Hong Kong serving 6,000+ guests until Covid 19 closed down Hong Kong in January 2020 for 3 full years, I have since retired from doing tours and spend my time doing Hong Kong research, working as a consultant, offering unique Hong Kong experiences and doing my photography.
I also spend a significant portion of my day doing research in the fields of tours, travel and tourism and share this on a daily basis with my friends.

I have had conversations with all my friends about why I never offered food tours, there has always been a world wide consensus in the industry that you have to be a true local or native of that city and | or country to have the expertise to offer food tours - I see the logic of that position and have never had a problem with it but then I should point out that in a way I am an expert in Hong Kong food, I have eaten (at last count) at around 1,500 Chinese Restaurants in Hong Kong since 1972, (having lived here for 52 years) half of my wife’s family are Hong Kong Chinese and I have a fairly good grasp of what is what food wise.
I choose not to do food tours in Hong Kong primarily for health reasons but when I did tours, many times we ate in local restaurant’s for snacks, lunch or dinner and I realised that my expertise was Hong Kong and not specifically knowing the in’s and out’s of the local cuisine, I just could not forsee myself doing food tours and as they say, best leave it to the experts!
I should point out that I do have one major barrier to being an expert foodie guide, I absolutely hate tea, any tea, I have never had a cup of tea in my entire life (and yes, I am English) a few sips when I was a kid but that was that, never again! as you probably know the Chinese take their tea culture very seriously, it is a true art form and how could I talk about tea when I have never had it!! (and yes, I am a very unfussy coffee drinker)
I have always advised my friends to stress the importance of doing food tours with “a local”. like I said I have no issue with that.
Cecelia and her team (which includes her sister Silvana) have really nailed it and I have always recommended them to my guests when I did private tours of Hong Kong, many of my guests would do 2 or even 3 tours whilst in Hong Kong with one of them being a very specific food tour.
