I am a leading expert in Hong Kong on the Car Vanity Plate Culture also known as Personalised Car Licence Plate Culture which garners worldwide attention particularly at Chinese New Year in Hong Kong and I have also taken over 102,000 + images of cars in Hong Kong, it is a thing!

… but I am not just about cars, I take photographs of all vehicles : - Trucks, Buses, Vans, Motorbikes, Scooters and all sorts of commercial vehicles, it is amazing how many of them we have for such a small city.

Public Light Buses or PLB’s are iconic, I travelled on my first one here 52 years ago not long after they where introduced in 1969 and I use them daily… there are officially 4,350 of them (capped since 1976) in Hong Kong with either a green roof or a red roof, generally the “official count” is about 4,100 running on the roads every day due to a shortfall in drivers.

Why are they so popular? primarily because they are cheap, reliable and you do not have to wait for long, normally just a few minutes but by the same token they are not for the faint hearted, technically they are speed limited to 80kph but that seems to be just a suggestion for most drivers and you have to have some familiarity of the routes but once you get the hang of it you start to appreciate just what an important transport option they are.

Toyota has had a lock on the PLB market since the beginning with Mercedes Benz and MAN buses being introduced for special services buses such as wheelchair access and now we have 19 seaters as well as the normal 16 seaters.

Like I said, iconic!
