The Number 1 place to visit in Hong Kong | Victoria Peak

My Guests at Victoria Peak in Hong Kong

I have a thing about Victoria Peak or the Peak as it is known in Hong Kong, I have lived in Hong Kong for 52 years and have been to the Peak over 6,000 times since 1972.

This means that I took many guests to Victoria Peak, primarily to Jamie’s spot at the Peak also known as the Lugard Road Look Out.

In a nutshell and unlike many of my competitors (so to speak) I built | build my experience (s) around visiting Victoria Peak, this was my thing so to speak and in a nutshell, it worked for me. I have never understood why Tour Companies | Tour Guides never had the same affinity for Victoria Peak as I do | did - it is the very essence of Hong Kong, without seeing the fantastic and truly awesome panoramic view of the City from my spot at the Lugard Road Lookout you will not understand the Real Hong Kong.

… and this is me talking not some nefarious AI bot.

I am always incredulous at how many lifestyle websites and travel blogs these days seem to mention Victoria Peak as an afterthought, you know the articles I mean :

  • 20 things to do in Hong Kong

  • 10 top rated tourist attractions in Hong Kong

  • 63 incredible things to do in Hong Kong

The problem with these articles (and there are hundreds of them) is I doubt very much that the writers have lived in Hong Kong for over 50 years or completed 2,324 private tours of Hong Kong, their focus is to include what I call Instagram spots or hidden gems or secret spots and forget the blindingly obvious, it is very disappointing.

The list is endless and very few people rate Victoria Peak as the number one attraction and I think it is because most visitors to the Peak see a quite disappointing view from the Peak Tower 428 Sky Terrace (and pay for it) and they have had a less than good experience on the Peak Tram.

Atlas Obscura has a list of 26 cool and unusual things to do in Hong Kong and Victoria Peak is not even mentioned!

Apathy may also be another word to use, people have been visiting Victoria Peak or The Peak for the view since the Peak Tram started in 1888, these days people seem to think that visiting Disneyland and | or The Big Buddha on Lantau Island or taking a ride on he Star Ferry is “the essence of Hong Kong” which makes me quite mad and sad at the same time.

Your number priority when you come to Hong Kong should be to see the awesome panoramic view from the Lugard Road Lookout. period.

I have chosen not to add any comments to the images and the images are in no particular order and those with eagle eyes will note that some images are NOT taken at the Lugard Road Lookout, essentially sometimes because of mobility issues my guests chose other viewing spots.

….. oh and one final point, looking at images is one thing, actually seeing it with your own eyes cannot be beat! please visit Hong Kong.

If I had any followers on Instagram who liked views rather than my car images then this would be a classic, Mum, Dad and 4 kids aged from 12 - 22 from England, perfect weather, the planets aligned as they do on most days at the Peak.

This rather sums up Jamie’s spot at the Peak.
