Hong Kong Residents Tours

This is the text of my 2021 Blog Post on my J3 Private Tours Website, I have had time to reflect on what I wrote and have made some adjustments to the text with updates and such.

I have lived in Hong Kong for 52 years, my wife is Asian, Hong Kong born with Cantonese as a first language with English as a second language she works in an International School, we have 3 adult sons aged 25, 32 and 41, the two youngest live and work in Hong Kong, our oldest lives and works in London, UK.

I was born in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire and we arrived as a family on January 2nd 1972 and I am still here and I might add still a proud Yorkshireman!

In a nutshell I know Hong Kong and I know the culture, all of our sons where educated in Hong Kong, my wife’s family has been in Hong Kong since the early 1950’s with many family members being Hong Kong Chinese.

I have done quite a few tours with Hong Kong Residents since 2011 and I have done 300+ private tours since 2011 with 1, 2 and 3 ladies only from mainly English speaking countries in addition to Hong Kong Residents.

There are any number of reasons you might want to spend 3 - 5 hours exploring Hong Kong with Jamie….

• you have free time on your hands and visiting places you have never seen sounds really interesting

• spending a few hours with a long term friendly, fun and engaging Hong Kong resident will give you insights you will never read in a guide book or newspaper | magazine article - I can be pretty blunt as well

• you simply want to know more about the culture from a long term Hong Kong resident of 52 years

• you will hopefully have family and friends visiting Hong Kong at some stage in the near (ish) future and you are looking for ideas on how best to show them Hong Kong

• I appreciate that a lot of people are interested in “hidden gems” a term that I hate by the way and have written quite a few blog posts about this very subject, a lot of Hong Kong’s more interesting “sites and sights” are hidden in plain sight and guess what, I really know Hong Kong

• you are a relatively recent arrival to Hong Kong and you simply want to expand your knowledge and get some practical advice, in person, face to face

• I make extensive use of public transport, which can be a bit of a culture shock for some!

• you may laugh and think I am joking but I have the ability to do an 8 hour tour of Hong Kong sat in the comfort of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Lobby in Central or any great Hotel that has comfortable seating, I am as they say a natural storyteller but am not in any shape or form an old stuffed shirt, I can be blunt and I have a great sense of humour

• at a more simple level you may just want some company, allowing you to enrich your understanding of this fabulous city, Hong Kong.

• and if you are into photography then I can help, I have taken many professional photographers out on a tour to explore the streets of Hong Kong but I do not do photography tours of Hong Kong as such, I do NOT teach photography but I have a very expensive Sony camera which takes amazing shots in all manner of lighting conditions - you will see links all over my site that lead to my Flickr site where I showcase my 170,000 + images of Hong Kong I am at best an enthusiastic amateur but I love to take pictures and Hong Kong is a dream location.

• please note that I do not do food tours in any shape or form but I have friends who do, I am a founder member of a tight knit group of Private Tour Companies in Hong Kong, I work with the best and are happy to recommend them if you want to explore Hong Kong Food.
