Since 2010 myself and my friends who offer Private Tours of Hong Kong have often struggled to find a reliable and convenient solution to the left luggage problem that plagues visitors arriving in Hong Kong on planes or cruise ships.

Finding a left luggage service is very useful for when you want to go sightseeing, do a spot of shopping or have a short private tour of Hong Kong before you travel onward and do not want to be burdened by your baggage.

So what do you do with the luggage if you want to go sightseeing and you feel a car tour is not feasible cost wise?

This is a very common problem | scenario we have faced over the past 15 years….

A large cruise ship sails into Hong Kong and docks at either the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal or the Ocean Terminal. Many passengers are leaving the cruise in Hong Kong and returning home and have 8 - 12 hours of free time before catching a connecting flight later that day and sightseeing in Hong Kong with 6 suitcases is not really an option for many.

My friends are nothing if not creative and quite often over the years one of the few options available was to do an actual car tour of Hong Kong, so pick up at the Airport or Cruise Ship Terminal and see Hong Kong by car with your luggage stored in the trunk of the car, a good but expensive solution as hiring a car and driver is not cheap in Hong Kong! this by the way was something that I never offered as I am not a fan of doing car tours!

When cruise ships arrive at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal in Hong Kong, it is not uncommon to see 50 Toyota Alphard 7 Seaters lined up to go sightseeing!, plenty of room for that luggage but it can be very expensive.

Just as an amusing aside, if you visit Hong Kong these days you will wonder what is the thing with Mainland Chinese Tourists lugging suitcases on the streets and on public transport and it is quite common to see them sitting on their suitcases and moving along the pavements, yes, electric luggage with wheels has become popular, they are like a plague of locusts and I hate the darn things. Mainland Chinese Tourists are roughly 80% of all tourists visiting Hong Kong and we had 45 million visitors in 2025, that is a lot of luggage on the streets, they primarily come for the day these days and bring suitcases for all the shopping they do! Seeing thousands of people lugging suitcases does not look like a fun day of sightseeing to me.
